Today was sort of boring. Svetlanna has a 3rd family family here in Ekaterinburg that just completed their 10 day waiting period and was scheduled to officially pickup their children and head to Moscow today, so as a result we were unable to visit with 'R' today. We had a nice breakfast downstairs at the hotel and then went for a walk around the block and in the mall (nothing like a U.S. mall) across the street from the hotel and spent the rest of the day kicking back in the hotel room surfacing the web and trying to get some rest and catching up on our jetlag recovery. For dinner we met up with another adopting couple (Mike and Sandra) here from the states and had dinner at the apartment that Svetlanna setup for them. The Russians have the strangest sense of decorating. Their apartment was clean, safe, and in newer condition, but was strange to look at. It seemed to have influences of goudy Asian, Middleastern, Indian, Greek, Italian, and anything that had the color gold in it. The centerpiece was a gold discoballesque spinning light fixture with a matching gold globe chandellier and gold globe wall sconce. We had a nice pasta dinner with them and will be sure to invite them over when we get into our temporary apartment tomorrow afternoon. One funny thing was that on the way up to their apartment (13th floor), the tiny little elevator we were in got stuck. We pressed the emergency buzzer and got someone on the intercom that only spoke Russian. So here we are all of four of us flipping through our Russian phrase book trying to pronounce things in Russian like 'Elevator won't go', 'Help', 'Please fix', etc... After about 5-10 minutes it started moving again and we ended up in the basement parking garage. We decided to migrate over to the other elevator next to this one and this time had better luck in reaching our floor.
Tomorrow we will have the chance to visit with 'R' in the morning and then Svetlanna says she has to do some paperwork with us. We're hoping to have the opportunity to take 'R' out for a little walk around the grounds of the baby home tomorrow, but I just don't think they're going to go for that.
