Day #4

We moved into the apartment yesterday for our 2 week stay. It's a nice one bedroom apartment with all new appliances and all the amenities. The decor is a little strange and there is a creepy life size Alf Doll that sits in the corner. We have a very convenient small grocery store at the street level of the building and a big grocery store with all kinds if weird stuff about a 10 minute walk away. We did our first load of laundry in the apartment and discovered that this is something we ought not to do late at night as the washer sounds like a jet engine when it goes into its spin cycle. The one thing that we can't figure out is where we're supposed to dump our trash from the apartment.

Today we went back to the baby home for a visit with 'R' and it was a great visit. He didn't cry at all....just a little whine for about 2 seconds when the caregiver brought him into the room. He laughed, giggled, and played with both of us for the whole time. It was the best visit yet!!

After the visit we went to lunch with Svetlana. We had a little scare as I (Jeff) accidently left my credit card at the small cafe we ate lunch at. About 6 hours later I realized what I had done and we raced back to the cafe. Luckily they were very honest and returned to me my credit card which appeared to be safely stored in their cash register. I'll still probably keep tabs for any out of the ordinary purchases. We were on a mission to find a pair of snow boots and snow pants for 'R' today. We didn't find any boots, but did end up buying a full snow suit. Hopefully we can find him some snow boots before we bring him home. He'll definitely need them around here. A note, we refer to him as 'R' and we have yet to post any pics of him by recommendation from the agency, as they suggest it might not be appropriate until we are officially his parents. After tomorrow hopefully you'll see some pics.

Tomorrow is our court date with the judge in which everything will get finalized. We'll then have to sit through our 10 day waiting period in whioh 'R' will have to remain at the baby home. We probably will not get to see him for a few days as the baby home does not permit visitors on the weekend and Monday is a holiday. You're going to love this, Monday is the holiday of Men's Day!! Love it!

Wish us luck tomorrow! Sounds like we're on for about an hour and then it's done and the waiting period begins.

Your apartment looks so nice!
I hope you are having a great time and that you find enough to do to keep you busy over the long weekend.

Hi Jeff and Dawn: I get so excited to see updates from fellow "Ekat'ers" and hear what's going on with you guys. Can't wait to see pics of R and all of you as a family!

Ugh -- these holidays are killing me with getting our p/w processed. But hey -- enjoy the day, Jeff. There's no "Man Day" here but you will be celebrating Father's Day!! :)

Hugs from afar,
Laura (and Jon, too!)

Hi guys,
Mike and I had meant to tell you more about the apartment but we were rushed out of there so quickly. Yes, we also had a "jet engine" go off around 9:30PM one night. Then I knew to do laundry early in the morning. Also, Mike became obsessed with the garbage issue for about 5 days or so. Svetlana wasn't sure what to do either. We found one about half a block away but then the last day we were there Colby brought us for a walk around the courtyard right outside the main entrance to the building. There is a couple "dumpsters" right outside as you walk towards the other blue building. Hope that helps! Good luck today. We will be thinking of you as we head to the US Embassy for 2PM. I can't wait to see pics of your little man.
